Spirituality: Is it for fun or for healing?

Spirituality: Is it for fun or for healing?

The same question can be asked of religion, or sex. Some go to church for fellowship, food, community, maybe distraction, and perhaps to feel they are “doing some good” just by showing up.  So it is with many spiritual gatherings. You want to belong, use the same mala or rosary, have the same or similar vocabulary and beliefs and then even share similar sense of humor.  Some people use 12-Step or the Wicca communities for the same purposes and reasons, to belong and share a common culture and common priorities.   Just to be fair, on the other extreme people join the KKK to also share a common culture and “fun” activities….and then there are cults. The fun of belonging, sharing values is a common thread in many people. They go to bars, watch sports, race cars, become yoga junkies, do drum circles, cast spells, or share essential oils. Good luck arguing one group is better than another. Each group will “win”. Living with diversity can be a challenge to say the least and finding “fun” can take some work to discover and re-discover as you change and grow.  Life changes bring changes in your choices of fun. You stop drinking; you find hanging with your drunk or high friends not so entertaining. You learn about racism or sexism and hanging with your buds harassing women and blacks loses its appeal.  As you get older sex can become less fun and you may desire more profound encounters, or you may now desire more casual encounters and adventures. After crystals and oils wear off you might leave the new age culture or dive into something deeper such as a Spiritual Practice.

The fun of the current spiritual culture in the USA is engaging in gatherings to chant, buy crystals and oils, take yoga, try out all sorts of “channeled” healings that will erase karma and heal you (like all the diets that work with no effort) and discuss chakras and extra-terrestrials. Like all forms of fun, spiritual activities can be healing providing laughter and comradery.  It can also, like all forms of fun, be used as a distraction to not feel, not have to face or confront challenges, to keep yourself occupied so you don’t have to think too much. Some kinds of fun are also based in healing.   Going to 12-Step meetings, yoga, kirtan, or coven circles can be a mixture of fun and healing, depending on the teacher and your focus as a participant.  Life happens, life offers, what you do with those offerings is your personal choice. Some people choose constant fun, others constant healing or learning, and some find a mixture best for them.  However many people are not making conscious choices and if your choices are not conscious, you have little chance of staying in balance.

Just like going to church does not automatically make you a Christian or Catholic, doing fun spiritual activities does not automatically put you on a Spiritual Path.  Some people can have “fun “ sex or sex for security the basis of many a modern marriage while others cannot tolerate mediocre or casual sex and will only make love with a soul partner.  So it is with spirituality, some people are attracted to or tolerate casual encounters, for others, they require that all their encounters (spiritual and human) must be on the level of sacred to be fun. The point is do you know the choices you are making and why you are making them?  Women who have told me they are “doing their wifely duty” by having sex with their husbands have made a choice and are clear that they love their husband (or need the finances) but the sex is bad, but they do it any ways.  Being able to be open and honest about their choices takes them out of victim mode and places them firmly in the “now”, awake and present.  Being awake and present means you can find balance for yourself. Balance is always a work in progress and taking note of your progress while working will ensure you keep finding your balance point. Spirituality for fun is a fine choice, just be clear about it.  Choosing Spirituality for healing is something else which may or may not be fun. Healing is definitely not fun all the time, it is a mixed bag and for some people that is too uncomfortable or challenging or maybe even boring.  No matter what you choose, you will heal and learn just as no matter what you do in life, you are feeling and working with the effects of gravity.  Do not need to feel the pressure to “get better”, heal, or even learn. You can let life direct you in all of that, let life get your attention and deliver the lesson.  Some people like to know how cars work, others like to work on cars, some like to take classes on how to work on cars,  some like to learn fully by trial and error, some don’t want to know anything about cars they just want to drive them and have others fix them or buy  new ones when needed. You get to choose. Each choice has consequences so know those as well so you do not cry victim later on.

At Life Path Healings the emphasis is on healing and learning, crying and laughing, hard work with psychology for emotional health, knowledge to practice for physical health and then once the body and life you choose for this life is up and running you will be able to fully participate in the energetic adventures and healings of the Spirit World.  We learn to use energy to heal, remove entities, see the future to be better prepared for it, be a Spiritual Secret Agent, diagnose problems and much more.  It is described as a middle path: To follow the path of Heaven, cultivate the Tao with diligence and sincerity of the heart. To follow the path on Earth, cultivate the Self according to the laws of humanity and society.  You incarnated for a reason, in this historical time, in the country and economic reality you chose including your entire family of origin. Your entire life was constructed by you (with Guidance) for you to participate in, learn, grow and have fun. Therefore you look at, accept, and work with all aspects of our development beginning with our earliest experiences from in the womb, to early childhood onwards.  This life is your Path, and you chose it. Now that you are here your choice to manifest something else because once in body you find the Path either too difficult or distasteful is you going against your Guided manifestation of this life.  So you work with this life you chose and you diligently work on our Spiritual Evolution by having a profound and magical Spiritual Practice.  This Path is a balance between heaven and earth, Yin and Yang, work and play, laugh and weep, experience dark spirits and the bliss of connecting with Source. Just make sure you fully understand your choices.
