The Motivation Prostitution Solution

Image
The motivation industry.....sigh.  Not that there isn't some good (maybe?) that can come from it.  I have done quite a few of these....even last I year attended Mary Morrissey and her very well constructed Dream Builder extravaganza. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Living_Enrichment_Center .)  In spite of all the financial scandals, not only has she made a comeback, Mary has re-directed the public's interpretation to convince her public that not only is she is not corrupt (or a failure--  after all, if your product is so good, why do you have to rip off people or the IRS?), but that in fact her getting busted and still owing MILLIONS of dollars and the fact she is still in business is evidence of how powerful she is and how good her techniques are. And..... the lemmings apparently are buying her story.  Wow.  (A similar example, but one who eventually burned out is Susan Powter... a weight loss motivation guru $$$$ who eventually admitted she was drunk at all her presentations.

Mysticism

So many Healers (including mainstream therapists) sell themselves, in part, by projecting an image.... and sadly, many are attracted to image.  Why is that? Perhaps the idea of having an "ideal" allows people to kind of let themselves "off the hook" declaring, well, I can never be like him/her. Or maybe we just like the idea that somehow our idea of perfection really does exist. Perfection. When you are a ball of light on the other side, there is one kind of perfection. Here on Earth, the fluidity of movement, acceptance, surrender, flowing into change. This is perfection. Earth perfection is the ability to fully embrace, love, laugh at, survive, the roller coaster ride you chose before you came here.  I am very suspicious of those who present "well." And those who present as super amazing, well let's just say that is often the hallmark of a narcissistic personality (or even sociopathic) which in this era, in the USA are majority personality tendenci

Adrenaline Junkies as Mindfulness Seekers

Image
Adrenaline moments.... why do humans loooove adrenaline?  Skydiving, racing cars or horses, motorcycle challenges, skiing.... in fact, sports in general.  Being a soldier in war.  Stealing or engaging in crime..... even trying to walk up the stairs when you are drunk. Crises moments at work including high speed multi-tasking. Those moments of high focused concentration, where one is fully engaged. In these moments you feel your heartbeat, time slows down yet consumes us, split decisions command our undivided attention. One is no longer fretting about paying bills, or if we are fat or likeable. Arguing, creating drama or problems to solve also fully engage us.... for the moment.  All ways to be Mindful.....of course there are other choices! When we are Mindful, we are fully engaged in the present, just like we are when we are in physically challenging or dangerous situations or scenarios.  There is a part of being human that not only enjoys, but craves the challenge but also pleasure

Self Love ... or Self Indulgence

Image
We are in the generation of "You deserve it."  This usually means, a vacation, a new car, more money etc.  All lower body indulgences. Lower body?! Aren't we human? Isn't it sacred to be human?  Yes all that is true, however while lower body desires can be part of  the stairway to enlightenment,  they can easily become a trap leading to obsessions and distractions. Balance is not only key, it is truly the only path to self care and self love. Balance. is not a static state. It is an awareness, a state of being. It is the ability to tune into your being-ness and determine what is needed at this moment in time for body, mind, and spirit. Do you need a sexual encounter? Do you need some celibacy to re-center? Will meditation help you now, or a vacation?  This is not easily done.  If you are living with old childhood wounds, you will tend to be an addict or obsessive (generally speaking).  This means you will lean towards lower body satisfactions (food, alcohol, sex, ex
