To Speak or Not to Speak

Image
To Speak or Not to Speak Perhaps for some people teaching, helping, giving advice comes easy. For me there is angst. As a professor I would spend sleepless nights grading every small assignment. Do I give someone a “B” to encourage their effort when it is clear they have tried hard but ultimately hand in poor work? If I give them a “D” or “F” will it so wound them they will give up instead because of discouragement? If you give a “B” will they not realize it was only awarded to them to encourage them to keep at it, and not give up, but instead they will now be satisfied and stop working to get better, to improve?  As a friend, do you ever give unsolicited or even solicited feedback or opinions: ”You are taking supplements that are useless because you are still smoking, drinking, and eating fast food, so you are just burning money.” Then you are told “We are all doing the best that we can” or sometimes the friendship ends.   Do you lie instead? Dodge the question? ...

Is your Soulmate your predator?

Is your “Soul Mate”    your predator? “S/he knows me so well. S/he has taught me so many things about myself.” Surely these are signs of twin flame or a soul mate. I don’t think so. You might want to use these sentences regarding a therapist or a Teacher or healer, but even then I would be careful. If you are “longing” for someone to “get” you, for you to be or feel “seen” on a “deep” level you might as well wear a tee-shirt with a bullseye on it that says “prey”. If you are so wounded, so empty that you need to be “gotten” by another person, you need some deep and prolonged work on your Self, your Higher Self, your inner child and your relationship with Source. Even with working with a Teacher or Healer, if they are doing most of the work, telling you all about yourself, your Self, they are telling you a narrative, a story. Stories don’t solve problems or heal. Information does not heal. It can point you in the right direction but ultimately information does n...

Accountability is not Shaming

Image
Accountability is not Shaming I personally could have never gotten where I am by myself, even with the help of Spirit. I needed (and need) skilled humans, with a Spiritual Practice and evidence of a balanced life, to help me see me and my life in a way my wounded mind and psyche could have never comprehended and to give me tools I didn’t even know existed or if I did, I couldn’t use them without help. And my Spiritual Teacher saved my life, more than once. (With my Teacher, after 40 years there is still no cult, no temple, not even an organization.) Accepting a Teacher can be a bit scary. You do need to balance between “giving your power away” and being willing and able to receive assistance and Guidance. When you are wounded and especially when you are so wounded you don’t yet even know you are wounded because you have never examined your life and all you know are your wounds,  Spirit can open a door for you. However you have to have the courage to walk through and then do...
