Spiritual Warrior

This is the golden age of lawsuits, liability, victimhood and ultimate political correctness. Say the wrong thing, the wrong tone, the wrong words, etc. you are a predator, an abuser, or at the very least mean and lawsuit material. Sigh.   How do people get feedback? How can they learn when teachers, supervisors, mentors etc. are walking on eggshells? In this respect I consider myself quite lucky. Feedback for growth, healthy arguing (discussions with passion), having people around me that cared enough to speak up were always part of my life. In my childhood the culture of my ethnicity is one that expects people to speak up, hold opinions,   care about what you are talking about, research your point of view, present it,   learn from others, teach others, be willing to disagree, agree to disagree and still love, hug and stay with each other in life. As an activist in the peace and social justice movement we had “criticism/self-criticism” groups on a regular basis t...

"Mean" People

“Mean” People Very often people call another person “mean” and use such words as “tear me a new one,”    “brutal,” “attacking me," "cold,” “critical.” First off let’s distinguish what is meant in this article by the word “mean.”    I do not mean malignant narcissists, sociopaths, psychopaths and passive aggressive people who like to deliberately try to “hurt” you emotionally and get a reaction.   I also do not define mean as the KKK, pedophiles, spouse beaters etc. Those are violent people. By mean people, in this article I am referring to people who are simply being themselves, not trying to watch every word they say in order to not offend. In this article I am more specifically referring to Teachers, doctors, therapists, 12-Step sponsors, colleagues, all who with the best intentions of helping you (because you asked them too) either piss you off or “make” you feel attacked or threatened emotionally.   If indeed you feel this kind of person, a help...

Living a Spiritual Life

Living a Spiritual Life What does this mean? What does this look like? Everyone is actually living a spiritual life whether they know it or not. Just the fact one is incarnated means you are a soul who came here to learn and evolve, some consciously, some not. So for those of you who consider yourself “awakened”, it means you are conscious, but not necessarily “better” than anyone else, just that you are very conscious and maybe even have some of the coveted new age “gifts”. This does not insure you are living at your full potential or that you don’t have a secret life such as but not limited to using substances including food to get high, lacking integrity, hiding your true emotions to appear more “successful”.   Some of the most incredible people I have met were maids or handymen and some of the most devious and fake people I have met are new age icons or want to be an icon.   Just like being a priest or a daycare owner/worker is no guarantee that you are not a pedop...

The Middle Path

**The Middle Path** What about all those cool people, walk-ins, 8th dimensional beings, reincarnations of someone amazing?  I have been a student of spirituality since my 20’s (that’s 46 years now) and a practitioner for 33 years and have met lots of people in the spiritual industry and “community”.  Many, if not most, do not work on themselves. They work on their “spiritual gifts” and will spend hours communicating with the mothership, with the inner terrestrials, talking to their purple flame, even controlling the weather “I spent the morning bringing the hurricane down to a storm level”  (Wow, really? What if “god/goddess” who created that storm did so for, gulp, a higher purpose? Don’t get me started.)  In the meantime what I observe are “practitioners” on drugs (yes weed taken outside of ceremony on a daily basis to take care of moods or pain etc. means you are taking drugs), addicted to nicotine, alcohol, food, sugar, sometimes sex, co-dependence, etc....
