Do you want to tell your Story, or do you want Miracles in your life?

Do you want to tell your Story, or do you want Miracles in your life?

The new age industry sells stories, not spirituality. Westerners love their stories. It is material for social media, parties, books, and essential to be a workshop leader or some kind of self-proclaimed teacher. Stories about what happened, how you feel, what the “signs” are, they can make you feel like you exist, have a purpose, that you actually know what is going on and that your decisions, YOURS, are determining the direction of your life.  Stories tranquilize. They give you the sense that you are headed in the “right direction”, fulfilling your “life’s purpose” and that you are indeed doing what you are “supposed” to be doing. Whew. So much fear and control behind those desires.

You get addicted to your stories. You create them to suffer through unbearable marriages, or to soothe anxieties and depressions. They can become a way to self-medicate. Your stories give direction to your prayers. You can tell The Creator what you need, want, desire, need to “manifest” to make your current story work, to be viable, to prove that you, YOU, can create miracles, the miracles you pre-ordered via your prayers.  Also proving how on point you are in living your life’s purpose, how powerful and spiritual you are because your prayers can come true and give you what you want. Isn’t this beginning to sound like a fairy tale life of an all-powerful three year old?  I know what I want, and I want what I want, and I will do everything I can to get what I want, and all will be good in the world. And of course a three year old knows all about the world.  Humans, coming from their human, left brain cognitive perspective, compared to the wisdom and perspective of Spirit, are like three year olds. Why would you want to persist in insisting you comprehend and know what is best for you? Why would you insist on pursuing your limited version of life, and your life’s purpose?

When you try to control your life by telling stories, your way of insisting on “understanding” everything that is happening, at the time it is happening, you deny the Divine. What are miracles? Some think it means getting what you want.  The fact that it is a miracle means you cannot have even a clue of what the event will be, or the circumstances involved.  If you try to boss Spirit around in your prayers, asking to get what you want, then you are limiting yourself as you can only pray for what you, YOU, can imagine. And that takes the Divine out of prayer.  Control blocks the Divine. No Divine, no Miracles. But you will feel safe. Safe in a world you can “explain” and share your stories to friends, family and maybe even impress some other audience.  Most of all you will have limited your Self to “markers” you can see, measure, try to predict, and make a plan to move forward, and expect happiness because you will be getting what you want. And if you don’t get what you want, you will have a story about that. Keeps you busy, for sure. Having a story can mask your feelings, from your Self as well as being able to “present well” to others. Everybody likes a good story.

Are you ready for miracles? Really? There is a lot of fear in giving up control. How do you make room for miracles in your life?  You practice Acceptance and Surrender, to Spirit, not humans, not your story, not your left brain or your fears and anxieties.  What are you supposed to be doing in your life?  You are supposed to be doing exactly what you are doing right now. Do you think you are powerful enough to derail Spirit’s plan for your Life, the plan YOU MADE with Spirit before you ever decided to come down here? Your fate and destiny, pre-determined by YOU when you were in Spirit form, will come and get you. What shape you will be in when it comes to get you, that is up to you and your Spiritual Practice. Spirit has to get you ready for each miracle; otherwise you might die of shock, happiness, or freak out at the overwhelming goodness of it all. Therefore all the little layers of what you do each day, each week, each month, are getting you ready for what is next, for miracles if you stop interfering with the process of Spirit and your Higher Self.

Chop wood, carry water. Do what is in front of your face and do it with the best effort and attitude that you can pull out of yourself. You set up your life before you came here, now participate in each event, fully present and fully Connected. If you are not present, no one is home to receive the Guidance that is constantly available to you, if, you are “at home”, present, Listening.  Let each event and circumstance be another layer of your development. Your job is to stay open and develop the courage to follow the Guidance given, not the story, the Guidance. How do you know it is Guidance? Because it usually doesn’t make logical sense, but rather has a feel to it. Part of that “feel” will be faith, a feeling that “this doesn’t make any sense” but it feels right and all the doors keep opening. If what you follow and do then turns out to be a “failure”, that is your story, again. Take away the judgement of failure and you will find a lesson there, a lesson to move you forward and to get you strong enough for a miracle. Miracles do take strength as they offer you something beyond your imagination and therefore you are never “prepared” for a miracle in your logical mind. However you will discover, in hindsight only, how beautifully Spirit prepared you for your miracle, through a series of small steps. Life is full of layers.

Along with your Meditation Practice, see if you can stop the stories. Tell your Self, this is what happened so far, and “we’ll see” what comes next. Tell yourself “This is what I know so far. As to what it means, we’ll see, I am not going down that road.”

If you are meant to have some cognitive understanding of what is going on or what happened, trust the thoughts that are given to you when cleaning the toilet or holding your kitten not the left brain thoughts you spew out chewing on them with your left brain like a dog with a bone.  Thoughts that are given to you, not originating from you, those are messages from the Divine. They are not stories, they are like pearls, given to you one at a time, and slowly they may or may not make a necklace for you.  The stories will come, if they come at all, from hindsight and be given to you. Given To You. Not created or told by you. If you are making up the story as you go along, that is coming from you, your ego, your fears, anxieties and control issues.

Change your prayers to “help me”, “show me” and “thank you”. You can vent to Spirit, you can say this is what I really want, but then always end with “no matter what I say or feel, please give me what is best for my Highest Good.”  In other words, you consistently put Spirit in charge of your development, and your prayers. Your wants and needs are yours to struggle with, confront, feel, and learn from, not to be used to boss Spirit around. If you try to boss Spirit around, like a child screaming in the grocery store for chocolate, Spirit will give you what you want just to shut you up and because it is clear you will not stop until you get what you want, even if it is bad for you. The new age calls this “intending” and “manifesting”.  You can do it. But why would you want to?  You hire a master architect and then tell him/her what to do. Really?  You are three years old and trying to decide whether to have Twinkies, Ding Dongs, or Jelly Beans for dinner when you have a Master Chef right there offering you a great menu. Do you really want to be the one in charge of intending and manifesting? I don’t.

Make room for the miracles. Stop the stories. Live with “this is what I know so far”.  Put up sticky notes that say Help Me, Show Me and breathe. The breathing is so you remember to Stop and Listen for the Guidance that is always, always, out there.

Journey On
