I Pray…. But Nothing Happens

Nothing IS something. Prayers are simple:  help me, show me, and thank you. One does not boss Spirit around by telling Spirit what one needs or how to solve one’s problems. Venting to Spirit, yes, that works. You can give Spirit your anger, sadness, depression, confusion as well as your gratitude, love, joy.  Giving All to Spirit keeps your energy stream flowing, clear, bubbling, rocks, twist and turns.  Giving All to Spirit keeps you in touch with your inner life, your feelings, your energy levels, and your blocks.  It also keeps you honest instead of trying to present yourself as a “good” girl or boy. You ARE good… not perfect, but yes good. This means there is no reason to put your best foot forward to the All-That-Is-Energy that knows everything. You might as well choose instead to be authentic. That way you are telling Spirit you are willing to face everything, to receive Guidance for everything, that you accept your Self as a divine being traversing a human trail. When you present only your “good” side, or how you wish you were (rather than how you “are”) you are limiting Spirit. Spirit can only work with us according to our level of acceptance and surrender. If you say, for example, your weight, or your past abuse, or your depression is “off limits” by refusing to feel it, or discuss it, that material becomes off limits to your Guides. If you tell Spirit, I am ALL yours, Guide me for my Highest Good, you are telling Spirit that while you vent and have earthly desires, your biggest desire is to be Led to your Highest Good according to the Divine, not according to Earth.

You pray. Nothing happens. Now what? You can go deeper asking, show me, I don’t understand. But let’s say you are too emotional to meditate, or too off center to get a good “vibe” or message. You can accept that if nothing happens it means you are exactly where you need to be, struggling with exactly the perfect challenge that will move you forward in your evolution. What does that mean?  It means, deal with what is in front of your face: your feelings, your pre-conceived ideas on how you think your life should go.  It means that underneath your prayers, is resistance. You are committed to life going the way YOU think it should go and this blocks being able to hear or feel or receive Guidance from above, from another Source.

It also means that you might need to change direction. Let’s say your finances are terrible. You pray. The bills keep piling up, no income in sight. You are being challenged to change directions. If you have been looking for one kind of work, try looking in new areas that you have not considered before. Perhaps look for work in another city, country, or state. Or, sit still longer as the message might be, have faith, the timing is not right but it will be.

Why, you say in frustration, can’t Spirit just TELL me what to do?  Either you don’t listen, or you refuse to accept or believe the answer. Everyone hits these, spots that’s why they are called challenges. Spirit is not here to take away the challenges you set up for your Self in this life. Spirit is here to remind you of them and help you walk through them, not around them.  Spirit tells you that you need to be alone, and you scream NO WAY and go out and sleep with everyone, desperate to be in a relationship, sure you will not survive without one.  Spirit reminds you of your Life Path (that you chose before coming here) which requires that you, after three decades of being a mom, now you have to work at an office, or after years of  “success”  you will now experience rejection and isolation (to learn self-love rather than using success to feel good).  You scream (having gotten lost in earth plane desires and realities) “NO WAY… this can’t be happening, not after all my hard work. I don’t want it to go this way.”  When you have become addicted to lower body, earth plane desires and start to believe those choices are the road to freedom and happiness, Spirit has to put you in enough pain in your life to debilitate you, to get your attention, to squeeze you so hard you finally give up (surrender is so much easier than this alternative) and out of desperation, accept what is being shown to you.  Or at the very least, you stop fighting and lay down to “die”, well at least you stopped resisting and now Spirit has your attention. 

A farmer needed a mule and went to the market to buy one. When he found one, he asked the merchant if the mule had any problems.  "Not a problem," the merchant said.  "This mule will do anything you ask.  All you have to do is gently tell him."  The price for the mule was fair, so the farmer bought the mule.  The very next day the farmer wanted to plow his field.  He hitched the mule to the plow however the mule refused to work.  No matter what the farmer said, the mule ignored him. The farmer took the mule back to the merchant to return it. When the merchant heard the problem, he stated again, “this mule will do anything you ask” and then he walked over and picked up a two-by-four and hit the mule right on the head.  Then he whispered in the mule's ear and the mule started plowing the field, turning the soil over without anyone standing behind the plow. The farmer was astounded. The merchant smiled, and said, “I told you he will do anything you ask, you just have to get his attention first, before asking.” Everyone is on a Spiritual Path; some have chosen to consciously live life spiritually, some have not. If you are chosen to be consciously awakened, you can learn to not wait until Spirit has parked a giant truck (or turd) on your head to get your attention. You can be like the mule, or not. Spirit gives you Guidance. Spirit cannot TELL you what to do (because that violates free will), but rather offers, asks, whispers.  You can decide to NOT be like the mule. You can decide to listen, to learn to listen through personal Spiritual Cultivation, to tune into Spirit, to the whispers, the hints, the offerings.

Prayer is us talking. It does not necessarily imply that you are listening.  Prayers are ALWAYS answered, sometimes the answer is “no” or “not yet” or Spirit may in fact give you an answer you do not like, even hate. However, Spirit cannot tell you if you are asking the wrong question. Spirit wants you to be strong, not led like sheep and therefore expects you to do your end of the work, to follow the hints and Guidance a bit like a treasure hunt to find the correct questions to ask. How does that make one strong?  Learning or answers that are handed to us are often taken for granted.  Learning and answers we work hard to find, grasp and understand are cherished forever. Learning by experience is strength. Spirit gives you the hints; you have to volunteer to willingly take the journey.  If you think your Prayers are not being answered, don’t blame Spirit. First consider if you are being told “no” or “not yet.” If you are still confused, look to your secret agenda, your unconscious desires that lie beneath your Prayers, then ask Spirit to remove them, take them from you if it is in your highest good. Then Pray for Guidance and Help on where SPIRIT thinks you should put your attention.  And meditate, to listen.  Through Meditation you can learn to better hear the Sound of the Universe, the messages from Spirit. Learn to listen for, and to, the whispers.  Don’t wait for the stick to hit your head.
