Is it really overgiving?

Spirituality isn't participating in the New Age Industry. That is like saying getting a massage is you working out at the gym. Massages are good, and fun!  But they are not building strength and resiliency. Spirituality is personal growth for your own Soul Evolution. And just because declare yourself to be "spiritual" does not mean you will end up with a spiritual "career".  And just because you  have decided (or been told) you are spiritual does not mean your personal life will now guarantee that you have lots of money, great sex, have the career or work of your dreams, are healthy, and are able to experience joy and contentment.

Like anything else on 3D Earth, spirituality takes time, energy and focus. This means you will have to "practice", actually "do"  what you are learning. Learning and actually then practicing what you learn involves taking risk, as does all learning and changing. Many people have not been parented in a healthy fashion and therefore have not learned how to face fear and failures (a necessary ingredient of all learning) in a way that will help them grow rather than retreat in shame. Most people have not learned the skill set of resilience which are body, mind, spirit practices and disciplines (discipline being one of the highest forms of self-care/self-love...it is not about being some kind of militaristic practice.)

This is why it is helpful, and in some cases, absolutely necessary that you seek out, pray for, and and risk trying out mentors and teachers especially in the beginning until you cultivate your personal courage and resilience skills. Additionally, most people are not able to notice their own progress regarding their work with personal growth and evolution. They don't even know what to look for.

In physical sports this is why people work with coaches, to have a mentor help them develop skills and to also develop the skill to notice, track and celebrate progress and "wins." If you don't know what you are doing (which is common when starting something new), how do you know if you are progressing? Yes you can use trial and error.  Trial and error is always a part of all learning because no matter how much you are told, read, watch videos etc. at some point you now have to implement and that will always include some trial and error. That is an appropriate balanced way of using trial and error.  However, in some cases it is not a good choice at all!. Sometimes situations, emotions, anxiety, fear, and even real physical dangerous circumstanes are overwhelming and trial and error will take you down the dark circling road of reactivity rather than pro-active choices.

When you are coming from reactivity, you typically are running in your old familiar circles, thinking you are actually moving forward, making progress.

Most people cannot be objective about themselves or their situation or their family/cultural programming or be brave enough to take the necessary risks to work alone. expecially in the beginning of something very new. Yes Life will teach you, no matter what. You hit a wall, fall down, get up, dust yourself off, treat the bruises and bleeding, hopefully reflect on what you just learned, tell yourself how strong and brave you are.

However , whenever possible, I prefer to be proactive about enrolling in my life classes by choosing to work with Teachers /mentors (when possible) in addition to my own choices or thoughts. Having an actual spiritual practice (not shopping for new age goodies or going to a feel good event) gives me the connection and guidance that allows me to intuitively find amazing human guides when needed. I find working with a mentor or Teacher gives me the tools to be able to participate in my life choices more fully, with less bruising.

My mentors and Teachers (and yes, at 74 I still have both, in human form as well as spirits) have saved my life, made my Path more readily available and have been sources of tremendous encouragement when the trail has been rough.  Are they absolutely necessary? No. But neither is eating healthy. Either way you get through life. However, one way lightens the load and illuminates the trail, and the other creates more burdens for you to carry while on the Path. If you are hiking the mountains, wouldn't you want a Sherpa to help you prepare to learn about the right gear needed, learn the best training to get you in shape for the journey?  Could you do it all on your own? Sure, but I don't know if I want to use trial and error method only at 13,000 feet up and 30 below freezing temperatures.

There is nothing wrong with spirituality for fun or distraction. Those are different choices than wanting to invest in your personal growth and spiritual evolution. There is nothing wrong with working alone, however do check in and make sure you are clear about your choices and not being reactive because you don't trust people.  If you are lucky enough to find someone to study with, to work with, to practice with, take advantage of his/her time. You don't know how long they will be here, or be available.
